1lb ground pork or sausage stuffing
Sliced mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup chopped onions
1 cup chopped celery (optional)
1 large clove garlic, minced
1/2 cup bell pepper
1 loaf French bread
Mustard
Italian salad dressing
1/2 tsp ground sage
1/8 tsp ground pepper
2 eggs
1/2 cup evaporated milk
Butter or margarine, melted
- Cook meat in saucepan, stirring occasionally.
- When there is sufficient fat at the bottom, add onions, celery, garlic and bell pepper.
- When vegetables are tender, turn off heat.
- Split bread in half lengthwise.
- Hollow out to form shells.
- Mix equal parts mustard and Italian dressing to form a sauce.
- Spread sauce lightly on inside of prepared bread.
- Soak extracted bread pulp in milk and eggs, then add to meat mixture.
- Add spices and eggs1, stirring until blended thoroughly.
- Immediately spoon into bottom of prepared loaf.
- Top with mozzarella cheese and top of loaf.
- Brush loaf with melted butter.
- Bake at 400°F for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
Can be sliced for appetizers.
